San Domenico

Historic Benedictine monastery

The San Domenico in Taormina is a historic building located in the city of Taormina, Sicily. It was built in 1361 as a Benedictine monastery and was converted into a hotel in 1894. It has been visited by many famous figures over the centuries, including German Emperor Wilhelm II, Italian King Vittorio Emanuele III, and the famous English writer D.H. Lawrence. It offers a spectacular view of the Strait of Messina and Mount Etna and has an outdoor pool overlooking the sea.

San Domenico also houses a private chapel originally built for the Benedictine monks, which is still used for religious celebrations and private ceremonies. It is considered one of the best hotels in Sicily and attracts tourists from all over the world.
