Palazzo Ciampoli

Palazzo Ciampoli is a historical building located at Corso Umberto in Taormina, Sicily. Built in 1735, it was the summer residence of the Princes of Ciampoli, an aristocratic family from Naples. The palace was then used as the headquarters of French military authorities during their control of Sicily in the late 1700s.

The palace is an example of Sicilian Baroque architecture, with a façade decorated with rococo-style decorative motifs. The palace garden, with views of the Ionian coast, is particularly noteworthy, with fountains, statues and a wide variety of plants and flowers.

An interesting fact is that the palace was used during the French period: the famous general Napoleon Bonaparte spent some time at Palazzo Ciampoli during his campaign in Sicily. It was also used as the residence of French General Jean Reynier during the French occupation of the island. Palazzo Ciampoli is open exclusively on the occasion of events and exhibitions.
