Church of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria

The Church of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria is one of Taormina’s hidden gems, located in the upper part of the city. Built in the 17th century, the church is dedicated to the martyred heretic Saint Catherine of Alexandria, who was tortured and killed for her Christian faith.

An interesting fact about the church is that it was built on an ancient site, located in Corso Umberto, with remains of a 4th century BC Greek temple still visible in the church’s inner courtyard. Additionally, the interior of the church is decorated with 17th and 19th century frescoes and a white marble altar.

Don’t miss the panoramic view of the city and the sea from the church terrace. The Church of Santa Caterina d’Alessandria is a place of great beauty and historical value that is definitely worth a visit during your trip to Taormina.
