Ancient theatre of Taormina

The second largest in Sicily

The Ancient Theatre of Taormina is one of the most fascinating architectural wonders in Sicily and the entire Mediterranean. Built in the 3rd century BC by the ancient Greeks, this theater offers a breathtaking view of the Ionian coast of Sicily and represents a symbolic monument of art and culture of Magna Graecia.

Located in the heart of Taormina, the Ancient Theatre has been used over the centuries for Greek theatrical performances and, in later periods, for plays, dance shows, concerts and other forms of artistic expression.

The privileged position of the theatre, on a hill overlooking the sea, offers a spectacular view of the Bay of Naxos, the surrounding mountains and Mount Etna, an unforgettable experience that makes the Ancient Theatre of Taormina a truly unique place.

Today, the theatre is still in use and is used to host events of all kinds, from opera to theatre performances, from classical music to rock, to cabaret and comedy shows.

But the Ancient Theatre of Taormina is also a historical place that has seen great names of the arts and culture of the past pass under its arches, such as the great writers D.H. Lawrence and Truman Capote, the musician Richard Wagner, and many others.

In every corner of this ancient theatre, you can breathe in the history, art, and culture that have made Sicily one of the most fascinating lands in the world. Visiting the Ancient Theatre of Taormina means immersing yourself in a unique and unforgettable experience that will stay with you forever.
